Tips
This productive heirloom,"Connecticut Field", dating to the 1700‘s (at least), is the classic "jack-o-lantern" pumpkin: big round, orange flat-bottom globes weighing 15-20 lbs. Around here we call it the "Monster Pumpkin". Flesh inside is thick, orange-yellow, and stringy. Grow extra for your farm animals -they love this nutritious food.
Bonus: edible squash blossoms!
Direct sow outside after last frost, when soil temp is at least 60°F Plant in rows 1" deep, 3" apart, thin to 4' apart; or plant in hills 6 seeds per hill, thinning to 3 plants per hill. Can be started indoors, provided roots are not disturbed during transplanting.
soaking seeds overnight can speed up germination
warm weather medium-rooted plants that like rich soil, sun and plenty of moisture
make your hills out of rotted compost or manure for very happy plants
cross-pollinates readily with other squash cultivars of Cucurbita pepo; if saving seed, recommend growing only one variety at a time
blossoms are edible, and make a tasty treat raw or cooked
