Tips
A beautiful old world vegetable closely related to the beet. Treasured for its juicy red stems and flavorful, nutritious dark green leaves. One sowing can provide greens all season, even in the heat of summer. Also known as Ruby Chard.
Direct seed outdoors 2-4 weeks before last frost, when ground can be worked (soil temp about 40°F). Plant 1/2" deep, 2" apart. Thin to 5" apart when leaves touching...we eat our thinnings as we go! For fall plantings: sow seeds 6-8 weeks before first frost. Overwinter with at least 2-4" mulch for an early spring crop.
