Tips
Minnesota midget is a smaller cantaloupe melon that is the easiest to grow in our northern location. Its short vines make it a compact heavy producer of 4” rounds with sweet, juicy flesh. It's the most reliable melon we know of for our area...and we are grateful!
Sow outdoors when soil is at least 70 ℉ in hills of rich soil/compost. Plant 5 seeds 1/2" deep and five per hill, thinning later to the most vigorous 1 or 2 plants. Good hill sizes are about 3-6” high, 12” diameter and spaced about 16” apart.
heat-loving medium-rooted plants that like rich soil, sun and plenty of moisture
make your hills out of rotted compost or manure for very happy vines
cover with a row cover or sheet if weather gets cool
1-2 plants/hill means less competition for nutrients in our short season
