Aka "Western Gromwell" and "Western Stone Seed", this Native herbaceous cold hardy perennial is a member of the borage family. Its root is a long-prized medicinal with anti-viral and antiinflammatory properties, and also is a valued red dye source. Sow seeds indoors and transplant to pots. Keep in pots through first winter to give roots time to establish. Move to sunny garden spot with average well draining soil. Grows to 2-3 ft. Will self seed. Great in a wildflower naturalizing garden.
