A delightful perennial herb, also known as “Chinese Leeks”. Similar to chives, with flat leaves and the addition of a delicate garlic flavor and aroma. Charming long-lasting edible white flowers appear in August, adored by pollinators. Native to Asia, whole plant is treasured by herbalists. Used topically as antibacterial agent, internally as a whole body tonic and for improving liver and kidney function. Plant by kitchen for ready access or use as companion plant to carrots and cucumbers.
Start indoors, sowing seeds 1/4-inch deep and transplant to garden when ground can be worked in early spring. Can also direct seed in garden. Does well in average, well drained soil. Grows to 12-inches, with 30-inch flower stalks.
