Tips
An excellent shelling bush bean that does well in our climate where summers tend to be cool and short. Yellow, medium-sized beans with great flavor and texture that reliably mature to dryness in a shorter growing season. Now considered a rare heirloom, this bean originated in Mexico & made its way to Sweden before arriving in Montana via a Swedish family in the 1800’s. Nitrogen fixing legume. Benefits from bacterial inoculant.
Seed outdoors when soil temp is at least 60 degrees ℉ as plants don’t like cold damp soil. Plant 1 inch deep, 1 inch apart; thin to 2-4 inches apart when 4 inches tall. Leave healthiest plants.
stagger plantings by two weeks over the course of 8 weeks for a continuous supply of beans
excellent broth or pot bean for making hearty, nutritious vegetable stocks
enhance nitrogen-fixing capacity of legume by mixing seeds in inoculant powder (included)
