This easy to grow Mexican heirloom, also known as a “ground cherry”, "Mexican Husk Tomato", or "Mexican Tomato", is a main ingredient in salsa verde. De Milpa is a heavy producer of 1-inch flavorful fruit with greenish-purple skin and a paper coat giving the impression of little paper lanterns on the bush. Plant often volunteers in subsequent years. Valued folk medicinal for treating myriad complaints.
Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last expected frost, with soil temp about 75°F Start in flats and move to larger containers while still small. Transplant to garden well after last frost.
